I am a research scientist in the Earth Systems Research Center at UNH. I focus on agroecosystem ecology and the use of mathematical models to study carbon and nitrogen biogeochemical cycling in soils.

Education & Background:

  • 2017, 2018 Visiting Scholar, Faculdade de Engenharia Agrícola, Unicamp, Campinas, Brazil
  • 2015 PhD Ecology, Colorado State University
  • 2009 MS Natural Resources, University of Vermont
  • 2005 AB Env. & Evolutionary Biology, Dartmouth College

Interests:

  1. Using models to evaluate agricultural land management and land use change impacts on soil organic matter and pathways of nitrogen losses in Brazil and New England pasture lands, as well as in bioenergy cropping systems for second generation biofuels (sugarcane, corn stover residue).

  2. Data-model integration across scales, connecting global analyses with factors relevant at regional and local scales in Brazil pasturelands, and collaborating with experimental researchers in South Central Brazilian sugarcane production to scale experimental understanding to landscape-scale dynamics
  3. The use of soil organic matter models in climate change policy
  4. Advancing open-source development of multi-model comparisons, model parameterization, model development, and data-model integration (find me on GitHub)
  5. Improving models of litter decomposition (e.g. the LIDEL model)
